Tack Shop: 18 Very Vibey '70s-ish Sneakers That Aren't Sambas
Or Gazelles. Or anything Adidas, actually.
Hi! Substack has informed me that this post is “too long for email,” which means you may need to click “expand” to read all the way to the end. Enjoy!
Welcome to Tack Shop, a shopping column where I (or friends of Clotheshorse) curate a mélange of interesting, fun, delightful things you can invest in.
I have spent pretty much my whole adult life trying to look even an iota as cool as Farrah Fawcett looked skateboarding. You know, the iconic 1976 image? This one?
There’s a lot working against me here, namely her bone structure, hair volume, and actual, physical ability to skateboard. But you too can work toward embodying her capital-C cool essence with a 1970s-inspired pair of Nike Cortez sneakers — or something similar.
I was inspired to put together today’s Tack Shop post not simply out of obligation to dear Farrah, but because I’m working on tracking down a new pair of everyday sneakers to replicate my beloved Sambas that are quite literally coming apart at the seams. Contrary to what the title of this post may suggest, I have nothing against Sambas! But I think we can all agree to think outside the box a bit more dutifully here.

Those Dries sneakers are going to ruin me. 🤩 but also 🤑
